Frequently asked questions

What is psychotherapy?

Psychotherapy is a form of mental health treatment that involves talking with a trained mental health professional to explore and address emotional and behavioral issues. It can help individuals better understand their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and develop coping strategies to manage challenges and improve their overall well-being. Psychotherapy can be conducted in individual, group, or family settings, and may involve various approaches and techniques depending on the specific needs and goals of the individual.

How long will the session last?

A typical therapeutic session lasts for 50 minutes. This time frame allows for a productive and focused session while also allowing for time to wrap up and prepare for the next appointment.

What is the difference between counselling and phsycotherapy?

Counselling and psychotherapy are two types of talk therapy that aim to help individuals overcome emotional and psychological difficulties. Counselling is a short-term approach that focuses on practical solutions to current concerns, while psychotherapy is a long-term approach that explores the underlying causes of issues, often involving a deeper examination of past experiences and relationships.

Confidentiality

All  in your information and session content will be confidential. Confidentiality is the bases of the therapeutic relationship. However  if there is a disclosure of harm to yourself or someone else confidentiality will need to be broken but you will be made aware at the time. I follow the ethical guidelines  and framework of the NCPS .

Can I bring someone into my therapy session with me?

Therapy sessions should be attended alone. It is important for the client to feel safe and free to discuss their feelings, having someone else in the room can hinder this process.

How long will I need counselling for?

As a therapist, I do not dictate the number of sessions a client needs. The appropriate number of sessions required will depend on the specific needs of the client. It's important to work collaboratively with the client to determine the most effective treatment plan.
